The tower at the top of the house was built so that Pugin could watch for ships in the bay. Today, as well as seeing the roof tops of Ramsgate, round the coast to Deal, France on a clear day, and much of the next door Abbey and Church, you can also see the power station at Richborough, and Ramsgate harbour and ferry port.
